Interview of Petro Melnyk with Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko
Recently, an interesting conversation took place between the co-owner and executive director of Agricom Group Mr. Petro Melnyk and the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mr. Roman Leshchenko.
During an interview for the popular “AgroPortal” internet-resource, the issues of the company’s participation in state production development support programs, desiderates regarding government steps to stimulate the development of processing, Agricom’s plans regarding participation in the land market, issues of support for enterprises which will switch to alternative sources of energy, sustainability and others were highlighted.
Some quotations from Petro Melnyk
“For the next 5 years, Agricom Group has adopted a strategy that assumes an increase in food processing, the formation of new product areas related specifically to the final product, and, what is important in our time, an increase in jobs. We have already begun to implement the strategy. At the same time, we applied for UkraineInvest, and our application is assessed.”
“In order not to waste time, already in August we began construction of the second stage of the Dobrodiya processing plant in the Chernihiv region for our own circulating assets. Today structures for a new production facility with an area of more than 1,000 m2 have already been assembled.”
“We are very attentive to each our construction project where it is possible to use domestic equipment. During the construction of the plant, we investigated all the materials that we could buy from Ukrainian manufacturers without losing quality, and we tried to implement it 100%.”
“I hope that next year a program to increase oat production will start working in Ukraine. We took part in a meeting with the President in the Chernihiv region, where he plunged deeply into this issue. Thanks to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, this initiative did not stop. It seems to me that niche cultures in Ukraine have great potential. Supporting this direction, it is easier to achieve the sales and increase the added value of products.”
“Next year, Agricom Group plans to partially acquire Ukrainian production lines for the equipment of the plant. Now we have all filling lines from a Ukrainian manufacturer. The agricultural business thus supports mechanical engineering, and these projects are more significant for attracting investments and developing the Ukrainian economy.”
“The land sales market could increase to $ 500 million in three months, provided there were clearer preparation, more coordinated work of notaries and fewer obstacles. Now we need to pay attention to the authorities involved in the land market and refine certain things.”
“Agricom Group has abandoned the consumption of natural gas: the plant and grain storage facilities have been switched to pellets or husks during the past month. We are also considering switching to alternative energy sources, in particular, solar or wind energy.”
