Mr. Petro MELNYK speaks on why oat farming is compelling for the company and what are the perspectives of its growing
“Improving the selection, Ukraine has the tremendous potential by minimum of 1 – 1.5 ton”, says Petro MELNYK, basing upon the preliminary analysis carried out in collaboration with foreign scientists.
But even having average yield 4,5 ton per hectare in the last season, oats have produced quite attractive EBITDA at the same level as maize and sun-flower.
In 2021 Agricom Group plans to seed with oats 2,6 thousand of hectares and the seeding is almost finished. Comparing with the last year the area planted with this crop has expanded almost in twice.
Oats is the essential and strategic crop in the crops’ rotation of Agricom Group and the company operates powerful factory producing about 30% of Ukrainian flakes. In the context of raw stuff Agricom consumes up to 30% of Ukrainian oats for manufacturing its outputs.
The company continues to improve the technology of growing oats, selecting the best varieties, systems of nutrition and protection. This year, Agricom laid out research plots, where it has seeded 19 different varieties of oats (domestic and foreign) in 4 times frequency to determine the best variety for our conditions. Simultaneously, we test several new fungicidal schemes of crop protection.
